Local History Kit – Sumas Lake
In your classroom | Guided by you | $15.00/week
Sumas Lake, once home to the Sema:th people, spanned across the valley separating the community of Chilliwack and Abbotsford. Until its drainage in the 1920’s, the lake was a home, a recreational spot, and an abundant resource of wildlife. With this kit, discover the history of the Sumas Lake Reclamation Project and the continuing impact the drainage has today with your students. The kit includes a variety of primary source reproductions from personal accounts, maps and photographs to newspaper articles.
This kit was developed with a student from the History Department at the University of the Fraser Valley.
