Joseph Johnston joined the C.E.F. in Red Deer, Alberta on November 18, 1914. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Johnston lived on Prairie Central Road, East Chilliwack. At the time of his death he was on active service for three years and, in September 1916, was wounded in the right hand and also buried alive by an exploding shell.
