Cedar Weaving Workshop – Registration Required

Join Shy Watters on September 24, 2022 to learn about the importance of the tree of life to our Indigenous coastal nations. Shy will provide instruction on how to weave your very own cedar friendship rose, while sharing how cedar is harvested and processed.

Registration fee: $42 (CMHS Members receive a 10% discount)
All materials will be provided.
Recommended for ages 16 and up.

There are five timeslots available for registration. Please ensure you register in your preferred timeslot as space is limited.

Bio:

Shy Watters is a member of the shíshálh Nation (Coast Salish) with Kwakwakáwakw lineage. Using the medium of cedar, Shy weaves intricate designs and patterns from her rich, cultural background.

Shy has passionately woven red and yellow cedar since 1999 and continues to explore her art form with tenacity and enjoyment.

Her work is sought after for cultural ceremonies in Shy’s homelands of the shíshálh Nation, and she offers weaving courses throughout the year along the Sunshine Coast and throughout B.C. Since the pandemic, Shy provides online teaching and sells a variety of cedar kits.
